The Often Overlooked Photography of Wedding Invitation Suites

One of the first things many brides do after getting engaged is run out to their nearest bookstore to buy a wedding planning book filled with helpful to-do lists and timelines. Finalize your guest list 9-11 months before the wedding. Book your florist 6-8 months before. Shop for your wedding rings 2-3 months before. But one huge part of the to-do list early on that then fades away forgotten is the invitation suite.

Brides spend hours finding and perfecting their invitation suite, but all too often there’s one thing that doesn’t make the to-do list:  bringing an invitation suite for the photographer to take a picture of on the day of the wedding. So here are a few tips and tricks to make sure you don’t miss out on a beautiful photo of your wedding invitations.

1.     Always include your invitation suite in your detail shots. Whether you have just an invitation or a six piece set, your photographer can do so much with anything you give them.

2.     Because this is also a chance to include any special small trinkets in a photo, think ahead of time about what you would like to include. Your wedding day perfume? Your great-grandmother’s hair clip? Your “something blue?” Let your photographer know ahead of time so it doesn’t get left out.

3.     If you are on the more forgetful end of the spectrum, or you just want to limit the number of things you have to worry about on the day of the wedding, go ahead and mail your photographer an invitation when you mail everyone else’s! That way your photographer will have time to plan out your invitation detail shot ahead of time…and it’s always fun to get an invitation in the mail from one of my brides!
